Hey Reader! ☺️
Why do you read? Many of us read to escape. Others read to have adventures in wild and exotic locations. Some of us read to learn about the world or people or Truth. As we read, our enjoyment depends on how skillfully the author introduces us to and escorts us through the interesting and fantastical worlds they have created.
One more part of reading is very important to me as a Christian author.
I value your life.
I don’t want to waste your life by simply “entertaining” you. Yes, I want to thrill and excite you, as my reader. But there is a hitch.
First of all, every moment of your life is precious. And we are all accountable for how we spend our moments–Likewise, authors are responsible to not cause you to spend your precious moments wastefully–even if the story is engaging.
For example, if you came to my house for a meal, 🍽️ I’d be careful to feed you healthy and tasty food and not something that would shorten your life.
In the same way, when I write a book my hope is to help you have an adventure where, at the end of it, you have grown in depth of appreciation for Christ.
If you’ve been with me long, you know that’s the heartbeat of it all.
A lot of the reviews and letters I get from readers reflect that I’ve successfully fostered spiritual growth through my stories for them.
Right now, I’m listening to the audiobook production of Trunk of Scrolls: Paths of Faith and Fire (narrated by Eden Gabay). I’m thrilled that he did such a good job of bringing Marcellus and his story to life.
But also, I’m seeing that Trunk of Scrolls: Paths of Faith and Fire has succeeded in being a journey into the BIG QUESTIONS of life.
I feel like I’ll have no shame on the Final Day in presenting this novel at the feet of Christ.
For a long time, I’ve been planning to include 🎤 author interviews on our They All Marveled podcast.
I’ve set up a handful of authors who write Christian sci-fi/fantasy and are happy to join me. Our interviews will delve into these BIG QUESTIONS and how story can grow us in our faith.
I’m making author interview plans for our 2025 They All Marveled episodes.
