Pending Surprises

I have a secret that I can’t tell. Before I open that amazing surprise for you, I’ve given myself the limit that Vera’s Story has to be in the hands of the beta readers before I’m aloud to reveal this.

But rewriting that novel from page one (in the midst of my full time job here in Izmir) has been neither easy nor quick.

Since you’ve waited so patiently, here are a few glimpses from the pages:

• The story opens in fog, at a graveside. Someone is being laid to rest, and Vera has a few sharp-edged things to say about it.
• A pale figure in a flowing white gown who appears in Vera’s mirror seems to know her better than she knows herself, and the words she says Vera alone can hear.
• Vera has spent her life believing she has to look out for herself, because no one else will. This book puts that belief to the test.
• One whispered word at a family gathering marked the end of Vera’s childhood. She’s been running from it ever since.
• A thump in the night changes everything.

THE DESK

Peek at the desk: On in the background as I work on Vera’s Story: Be Thou My Vision.

Outside my window: The wind ebbs and flows across the valley, flowing from the mountain pines to the salt water tipped waves of the sea. It blows across the tops of the olive trees, changing them silver to grey to silver to grey, like waves of the sea. Fig tree leaves flutter like birdwings. Leaves, twigs, and branches lifted to the clouds, praising the Creator, thankful for sun and praying for rain.
