Algorithm by Theophilus Monroe
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Initially, I was struck by coarse language, both in explitives and ‘unnecessary sexual discussion.’ I wasn’t sure I’d be able to continue. But I received a copy of Algorithm in exchange for an honest review, so I wanted to complete the story. I am glad I did (rare objectionable material aside).
The story premise, with a worldwide brain-infecting nanobot network, was amazing. The science and explanation behind the premise was intriguing. The characters were all unique and well-developed. I listened to the audiobook, and the voice narrator had original voices for each character as well. The listening experience was very pleasurable.
The story plot moved forward like an action movie, and the character motivations were flushed-out to integrate with the plot. If you like psychological sci-fi movies like Gattaca or Minority Report, you’ll enjoy Algorithm.
